Photo-thon, Connections Highlight Day Without Hunger

This year, attendees at Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry’s fourth annual Day Without Hunger on Saturday, June 18th will stand up and be counted in a unique way, and have the opportunity to make a variety of connections. Pantry clients, staff, volunteers, and all event visitors can have their picture taken during a Photo-thon that will begin at the start of client food distribution at 8 a.m. and continue until the day’s events conclude at 4:30 p.m.

Small photos will be printed immediately, and the subjects can sign their image and place it within a special design which will read, “Together we dream of a day without hunger.” The design will be converted to a mosaic that will be on permanent display at Loaves & Fishes. Volunteer photographers will photograph attendees throughout the day, while Ed Hoy’s International will create the mosaic. Both will donate their services and materials, and there will be no charge for participants, who will also receive a free 4 x 6 photo to take home as a reminder of their commitment to ending hunger.

Agencies that are part of Loaves & Fishes’ Pathways to Empowerment programs will be on site all day. Representatives from Literacy DuPage, Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center, Benedictine University Dietetics Department, Community Career Center, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will provide information to clients and anyone wishing to learn more about these programs and general services.

Additionally, staff from the People’s Resource Center and West Suburban Community Pantry, located in Wheaton and Woodridge, respectively, will also be on hand all day. Their presence indicates the solidarity of local pantries that, like Loaves & Fishes, serve all of DuPage County.

Mayor A. George Pradel will address the Community BBQ, which will feature free food and entertainment for all. The DuPage Children’s Exhibit will entertain youngsters. A station appearance by 107.9 FM La Ley will also be featured.
