Day Without Hunger was a Success!

A note of thanks from Charles McLimans, Executive Director/CEO:

The weather cooperated, thankfully, and throughout the day more than 500 people participated in a celebration of community spirit, collaboration, and hope. Our Pathways to Empowerment partners were present to talk to clients and community members about their respective programs, and our pantry partners, People’s Resource Center in Wheaton, and West Suburban Pantry in Woodridge, were present to inform clients about their services to DuPage County residents.

The DuPage Children’s Museum provided entertainment for the kids, and the cookout was staffed by our friends from the Naperville Evening Kiwanis, along with Bob Elazan and other Loaves & Fishes volunteers.  Greg Eisel from Sounds Abound provided musical entertainment, and La Ley radio station broadcasted live from the event. It was a very festive and fun atmosphere for all.

One of the highlights of the day was the Photo-thon, which took place inside our grocery store. Every person who attended the event was photographed, given a souvenir photo of the day, and their image was placed on a wall display that says “Picture A Day Without Hunger.” This display will eventually be made into a stained glass photo mosaic by Ed Hoy’s International, and will be put on permanent display in our facility.

I would like to acknowledge the leadership of Jack Moore and Melvin Kim for leading the Day Without Hunger task force. Their outstanding work and dedication have brought a fresh vision to this event that is consistent with our new focus on strength through collaboration, and on a broader stakeholder base throughout DuPage County and Naperville. Jack, Melvin, and the task force put a lot of effort and energy into revitalizing this event, and it was a resounding success. Thank you, Jack and Melvin!

Thank you all for your tireless and passionate devotion to ending hunger in our community!
